New LAX project will bring all rental car companies together under one roof – CBS Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) – Another construction project kicked off Thursday at LAX, but this one promises to bring together all of the car rental companies scattered throughout the airport into one facility.

Los Angeles and LAX officials have unveiled the Consolidated Rent-A-Car facility, the latest piece in the biggest modernization puzzle that officials say will eventually make getting in and out of the sprawling airport easier.

Currently, LAX has over 20 car rental agencies scattered throughout the airport. The new facility promises to bring them together under one roof that will eventually be connected to the passenger transport vehicle, so that passengers can use it to collect their cars. When this is all over, car rental shuttles will no longer be needed to pick up passengers from the terminals.

The facility plan includes 5 million square feet and 16,000 spaces for rental cars. There will also be areas where cars can be washed, refueled and maintained by workers.

The new facility – which will be bordered by Aviation Boulevard to the west, Arbor Vitae Street to the north, La Cienega Boulevard to the east, and the new extension of 98th St. to the south – is expected to be completed in 2023, well ahead of the Games. 2028 Summer Olympics.
