Bank of America surprises local Girl Scout troop with $1,000 donation

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) – A local Bakersfield Girl Scouts troop (Girl Scouts of Central Valley South) got a big surprise when they joined their weekly troop meeting (via zoom) to find out that Bank of America was going to buy- on their entire Girl Scout cookie offering!

Girl Scout troops from Bakersfield and Fresno were part of the surprise.

Bank of America is participating for the second year as one of the Bakersfield area businesses in the Girl Scouts of Central Valley South “cookie buy out” program, which encourages more local businesses to support the Boy Scouts.

In a year where the Girl Scouts have faced challenges from stay-at-home orders, including virtual cookie sales mixed with traditional sales kiosks, the program is a huge boost to their efforts.

Bank of America’s participation in the cookie buyout is another way the bank is investing in career development opportunities for youth and teens – they learn about sales, marketing, finance, budgeting, planning and – always – excellent customer service.

As a bonus, some of the cookie boxes purchased will be donated to the Bakersfield Homeless Center.
